Meteor

What is Meteor?

Meteor is a full-stack JavaScript framework for building web and mobile apps. One language runs front to back, client to server to database. It first landed in 2012 as one of the earliest frameworks to make real-time data feel effortless.

Its signature is reactivity. When data changes on the server, every connected client sees the update without a page refresh or hand-written socket code. Meteor handles the live connection for you. That makes it a strong fit for collaborative tools, dashboards, and chat, where many people watch the same data shift in real time. A shared project board where one person moves a card and everyone else sees it slide instantly is the kind of experience Meteor was designed to make trivial. Compared to a modern stack of React plus a separate API plus a real-time layer, Meteor bundles all of it into one opinionated package, trading flexibility for speed of building.

The framework is more of a niche choice now than it was a decade ago, since the broader JavaScript ecosystem caught up and split those pieces into specialized tools. It still suits prototypes and real-time apps where its integrated approach saves real time.

Meteor at Dallonses

We meet Meteor most often in existing systems, where a client built on it years ago and now needs the app maintained, modernized, or carefully migrated. We work in it without flinching and keep it running while a plan takes shape.

For a new build, we are honest about where Meteor fits and where the wider ecosystem has moved on. If your real-time needs are better served by a current stack, we say so and lay out the trade-offs. Web app development is a decision with consequences for years, and we make it with you on the facts, not on whatever framework happens to be in fashion.

Running a Meteor app and wondering what's next for it? Let's map the path.
