Next.js

What is Next.js?

Next.js is an open-source web framework built on top of React and maintained by Vercel. It extends React with built-in solutions for routing, server-side rendering, static site generation, image optimization, and API routes, most of it configured out of the box.

The distinction from React itself is the key one. React is a library focused on building UI components, and it leaves a lot of decisions to the developer: how to route between pages, how to render on the server, how to handle SEO. Next.js takes care of those infrastructure concerns so the path from development to a fast, deployable product is shorter. A news site might render its article pages on the server so search engines and slow phones get full HTML instantly, while the interactive comment section loads in the browser. Next.js supports exactly that mix. Pages can be generated statically at build time, rendered on the server at request time, or rendered on the client, page by page, depending on what each one needs.

That flexibility, combined with strong developer experience and SEO-friendly server rendering, has made Next.js one of the most widely used frameworks in modern web development. It is a common default for teams building content-heavy sites, dashboards, and full web applications on React.

Next.js at Dallonses

Next.js is a core part of how we approach web development. When a project needs fast pages, real SEO, and the room to grow into a full application, it is usually our framework of choice. Server rendering means content shows up instantly and ranks properly, and the mix of rendering strategies lets us tune each page for what it actually does instead of forcing one approach across the whole site.

We do not reach for it on reflex, though. A simple marketing site might not need it, and we will say so. Where Next.js earns its place is in products that have to be quick, discoverable, and maintainable over years rather than months. That is the kind of web development we partner with clients on, and Next.js gives us a solid foundation to build it right.

Building a web product that has to be fast, findable, and built to last? Let's talk about it.
