What is a user interface?

The user interface is the point where a person meets a digital system. It covers everything someone can see, touch, or act on: buttons, menus, forms, typography, icons, layout, visual hierarchy. In a digital product, the UI is the surface through which every feature gets used. If the experience is the journey, the interface is the vehicle the user actually holds.

UI design decides how a product looks and how its interactive parts are arranged and presented. It translates the logic of a system into something a person can navigate without knowing what runs underneath. Good interface design is never just decoration. It leans on visual design, information architecture, and interaction design to move people through a product with minimal friction. Consistency, clarity, and clear feedback carry most of the weight. A checkout button that changes label and position on every screen will lose sales no matter how clean the brand looks.

UI sits close to UX but stays distinct from it. The interface is the presentation layer. UX is the wider experience of using the product, including flows, logic, and outcomes. In practice the two overlap heavily and usually live with the same team.
